I’d actually begun crafting outdoor quilts back in 1994, before I’d ever heard of computerized embroidery machines for the home sewer. However, when I realized that I could stitch the blocks within the embroidery hoop, using a combination of cutwork and reverse-applique techniques to create uniform “quilt blocks” boy-oh-boy did things change. Double Wedding Ring is actually my second attempt at this technique, after creating another set of 4×4-only designs simply called, Outdoor Quilts. This time around I wanted to get the most out of my embroidery hoops, which were 4×4, 5×7 and 6×10, at the time.
